Overview

CalliGrapherŪ 6.6 adds natural handwriting recognition capability to your Microsoft Windows-powered Handheld PCs for all handwriting styles -- cursive, print or mixed.

CalliGrapher analyzes pen strokes written in any application window, converts the pen strokes into text, and sends the recognized text to a target application. Employing advanced fuzzy logic and neural net techniques, CalliGrapher recognizes arbitrary alphanumeric strings as well as words from its integrated dictionary.

CalliGrapher also offers a comprehensive spell checker for all applications on your mobile device. The new version also includes a new utility - PenCommander - that allows users to create and execute command scripts by simply writing a word command and drawing a circle around it. CalliGrapher gives you the freedom to enter information quickly and efficiently into your mobile device. You can find the detailed information about CalliGrapher in the User's Guide.

A great tool for light to moderate text entry - and so much more! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

CalliGrapher is a fantastic utility for anyone who does light to moderate text entry on their PPC. And it is far more than just a simple text entry system. In terms of text entry, I've found that CalliGrapher is as good as anything available. It operates very much like the Transcriber tool included with many Pocket PCs but seems a little more accurate in translating your input and offers more features (Transcriber is actually a scaled down version of CalliGrapher that Microsoft licensed). And it includes a slew of extras that make it a better investment than the rest. I'll highlight three that I've found most useful. (1) A quick keystroke brings up a floating, moveable window that makes for quick keyboard-type entry of numbers and special characters (it also serves as a pop-up calculator). (2) PenCommander allows you to create shortcuts to enter pre-defined text. For example, I edit HTML documents on my Axim, so I set up a shortcut for different HTML tags -- a GREAT time saver! PenCommander can also be used to launch applications, insert special characters or do other macro-type functions. This "extra" alone makes CalliGrapher worth the investment. (3) Scratchpad allows you to scribble quick notes in your own handwriting, or draw a map or even just doodle. It is as fun as it is practical. I really like this feature for those times when I need to jot down something really quickly. You can later have your note translated into text if you want. Like most input systems, CalliGrapher does take some getting used to before you master it. You'll get much more out of it by taking some time with the manual. However, I had no problems using it effectively w/o ever glancing at the help file or manual. Take a test drive and see for yourself -- this is a very worthwhile enhancement to your PPC!
Close to being very good but still not there Rated 3 out of 5 stars

I've been using Calligrapher for a couple of years now, and I still often find it rough-edged and problematic to use. It cannot properly recognize several letters (upper-case H, k, upper case F, etc etc), and it can be troublesome in terms of buggy behavior, where it frequently spews out garbarge without cause. I keep hoping that the next version will show improvement in these areas, but so far I still consider it often frustrating to use.
Need to input a lot of repetitive info? Get CalliGrapher? Rated 5 out of 5 stars

In my job, I have to assess several situations per hour and I'm supposed to write lengthy comments on each one. With CalliGrapher's PenCommander, I write a short code, circle it, and out pops a two or three sentence comment that I had previously stored. My comments are supposed to be individualized and they are. I spent the initial time (which was fairly painless with CalliGrapher) to input and categorize 200+ comments. Also the main function, handwriting recognition works well. When CalliGrapher does have trouble differentiating between two characters (for me the only pair is '1'[one] and 'l'[el]) I just put the character it has trouble converting into PenCommander(for me, the '1'[one])and I'm good to go. I'm enthusiastic about it because it solved many problems and I'm still finding new things to do with it every other week.
