CalliGrapherŪ adds natural handwriting recognition capability to your Microsoft Windows-powered Pocket PC for all handwriting styles - cursive, PRINT or mixed.
CalliGrapher analyzes pen strokes written in any application window, converts the pen strokes into text and sends the recognized text to the target application. Employing advanced fuzzy logic and neural net techniques CalliGrapher recognizes arbitrary alphanumeric strings as well as words from its integrated dictionary.
CalliGrapher also offers a comprehensive spell checker for all applications on your mobile device. CalliGrapher is a multilingual application and Optional Language Packs can be purchased separately to add spell checker dictionaries and handwriting recognition styles for the additional languages.
Along with the handwriting input, CalliGrapher includes an advanced soft keyboard with the word-complete feature and user-customizable layouts. Multilingual support

on Dec 30, 2005 - I have had my PPC for over a year and it has spend much of the time on the shelf. The built in handwriting recognition was unusable for any real-time situation like taking notes in meeting. I didn''t want to carry a keyboard with me every where I went. Besides setting up a keyboard in a meeting is really distracting. Finally I tried Calligrapher. It''s accurate. It''s fast. It just plain works. I can take notes in meetings. I can fill out forms and tasks and appointments on the fly. Finally I don''t have to carry a pad of paper with me everywhere I go. This product makes the Pocket PC what it was meant to be. Try it and you won''t look back.

on Jun 12, 2005 - This is a drop in replacement for the transcriber and is much faster and more accurite. It's even better at understanding my handwriting than I am. True it occasionally gets words wrong, particularly if they aren't in it's dictionary but a quick gesture pops up a list of replacements or you can double tap and re-write the word more neatly. Entering punctuation can be a pain but there's a customisable pop-up keyboard. It also comes with PenCommander which allows you to script almost anything on the device and activate it by writing a word and drawing a ring round it.

Char. recognizing is average/good. Pencommander is very strong tool.

on May 16, 2004 - Generally I am very satisfied with Calligrapher. I am already familiar with writing rather than typing the characters. However, the recognizing of the letter o (like in hot) remains a trouble for me since it is merely recognized as s and as zero. It should at least not jump to the numeric setting when the written character with great probably belongs to a word. Like when writing "hot" it should not give "h0t". I would like when a heuristic engine (training) is included in the recognizing engine witch definitely improve the recognizing process, aided by the roughly indications from the Letter Shapes Editor. I use the Pencommander very often and made several pencommands myself to add a lot of convenience in the use of, for example, PPC applications, automatic PPC-settings changes and the use of SMS messages. Examples: SMS messaging including the contents, sender en send-command in one pencommand. A pencommand for auto-replying and autoforwarding, etc. I can recommend this program to everybody, particularly those who loves to write SMS / MMS messages and like to put all out of Pencommands! Above all, the Support from PhatWare is good.
