Simple in Design and Amateurish in Implementation Rated 1 out of 5 stars

This program (Pocket Diary 1.1) is the simplest journaling program I've found, storing text (plain text) for each date. However, it has a unique feature I've not seen anywhere else.

There are arrows for next/prev date, and double-tapping the date banner brings up a calendar input control. The double-tap is awkward, and there is no reason a single tap would not have sufficed (as with other programs). Oddly, the calendar cannot be dismissed by a tap outside the control, and in fact the main edit screen continues to work while the calendar is over it! Weird.

The main window does not shrink when an input panel (such as the keyboard) is opened. This is a serious flaw, since it covers part of the input area, and the program doesn't realize its covered and cope with it in any way (such as scrolling the text down). It even covers dialog box fields in the options, making it so obvious that I can't imagine why it was not discovered earlier. My first thought was that this is a CE2002 compatibility issue, but v1.1 is supposed to be 2002 compatible.

In general, the program is not only simple in design but amateurish in implementation, having many rough edges.

There is one interesting feature of note, though: the ability to "score" each day. You can assign a numeric value to any number of defined variables, and then graph a rage of days.

I find this an interesting, even inspirational, feature. I've never seen anything like that in a calendar program before, but it reminds me of the Roman saying, "may all your days be marked with white stones." They would reflect at the end of the day as to whether it was overall a good day or a bad day, and drop a stone, white for good or black for bad, into a jar. At the end of the month they would spill out the jar and see how many of each in total. I think a program that helps you do something similar would be a good gadget, to help you stay inspired.
