Why use DVD Catalyst 3?
iPhones, Zunes, Smartphones lack a DVD drive, so to be able to put a movie on these devices, a DVD needs to be changed into something that will work with them. You can buy/rent movie files from Apple's iTunes store, but these only work with iPod and iPhone devices. If you own a Zune, a PSP or anything else, you can not use iTunes to get your movies. By installing DVD Catalyst on your computer, you can convert your own DVD collection (as well as video files you might already have) into something that will play on your Blackberry, PocketPC etc. No need to pay for the movies again, or worry about watching them within a day before they expire. With DVD Catalyst you can watch your own movies and TV shows in a waiting room, entertain the kids on a long ride, or show off your home recordings to your colleagues, regardless of what device you use.
How does it work?
DVD Catalyst is super-easy to use. Once you install DVD Catalyst 3 on your (Windows-) computer, it provides you with a few basic options to begin with. Just use the drop-downs on the left to select your device. All the popular brands are represented, as well as a few generic options for certain device groups (Pocket PC's, Netbooks etc) If you already have a DVD in your computer, DVD Catalyst will automatically find it, otherwise, put a DVD in your computer (and it will be found automatically as well) Then just click Go, and DVD Catalyst will do it's thing to make the DVD into a video file for your selected device/player. Once complete, DVD Catalyst will eject the DVD, and all you need to do is transfer the video file to your smartphone, blackberry, zune, zen or iPhone. Thats all there is to it.

on Nov 18, 2009 - This product does what it says. I encoded 2 DVD's the first night, took about 15 - 20 minutes each - worked GREAT! Watching action scenes on my Att Tilt, they look great. Even my coworkers were impressed. I really love the preset encoding by device. Just pick your device out of the lineup, pop in a DVD and click GO - couldn't really be simpler. If you like options, you have that too, each crop can be made separately, or you can choose preset defaults. There are enough options here to make even me happy, but you really never have to see them if you don't want to. Very nice design. My first change was the volume on encoding, it was hearable, but a bit light - I clicked options, slid the volume bar up a bit, and was done. Easy. I also use this to encode my media center files (recorded TV) for my ATT Tilt. It encoded everything great. When I had a little issue, I emailed (from the program help menu itself) customer support at 11:40 PM and had a customized response in 5 minutes! Virtually unheard of in today's world! Anyway, the price is right, the program works great. In fact it just finished an hour of hdtv encoding in the time it took me to post this review.

on Jan 14, 2008 - I've had DVD Catalyst 2.5 and had no problems with it. I recently upgraded to the new 3.3 and it's even better. The selections for your device are easy to understand, and set up was even easier. I have three different devices that I put movies on and 3.3 handled all three with ease. This companies customer service is top notch. They've been very helpful and have answered every question I've come up with quickly. This is definately worth it!
