Everyone needs ScreenOff, especially if you use your Pocket PC as a cell phone or MP3 player. A screen blanker can be used for many different purposes, including shutting off your screen during a remote connection sessions.
This program saves your battery life while you use your Pocket PC for purposes that allow you to turn the screen off. Set up your MP3s or cell phone software, then shut off your screen and touch screen mechanisms to conserve power. It's that simple.
To turn the screen back on, just tap the power button twice or you can map ScreenOff to a hardware button or keyboard key to act like a toggle switch. By using this method, you can tap the button/key once to turn the screen off, and tap the button/key again to turn the screen back on.
If you were listening to a list of music on your home computer, you wouldn't leave your monitor on, would you? You would shut it off to conserve power. This is especially relevant to notebook computers and Pocket PCs. Why leave your screen on while listening to MP3s? The screen drains the battery more than any other component in the Pocket PC.
Just download this application to a desktop computer and install it to your Pocket PC. Setup your music (or other audio program) then when you?re done with the screen, shut it off by running this program. To turn the screen back on, push the power button once, wait one second, and then push the power button again. There is also another method to turn the Pocket PC back on.
Works great with the following uses:
- playing MP3s and Windows Media Player,
- using your PPC as a phone,
- file transfers and file backups,
- wireless internet connections,
- IR, USB, and serial connections,
- ActiveSync sessions.
Because your device remains on, your network connections, phone connections, and other activities that require the power to remain on will not be affected by turning the screen off. For example, if you are using your device as a phone, you can turn the screen off, and still receive incoming calls.
You can use ScreenOff to conserve power during a remote connection or ActiveSync session (when you are performing file transfers, or file backups).
You can setup ScreenOff to be run off the Today Screen, from a Pocket PC button, or even from a Pocket PC keyboard. This program maintains your Pocket PC in running state. This means you can even remain connected to a network while the screen is off. But remember, when you are finished using your Pocket PC, turn your machine off by pressing the power button once (because even though the screen is off, your Pocket PC is still on).

on Sep 27, 2004 - Sounds like a great program, so i gave it a try. I asigned it to a hardwear button like it said I could. I turn on my PC & press the button, my screen shuts off just like it should. I press the button again and the screen turns on and then right back off. I try pressing the power button twice, it dose the same thing. The only way I was able to turn my screen back on was to turn my PPC off for about a minute & then turn it back on. The program dose not work like it said it would & is more of a pain to use than it is worth.

Excellent Tool @ Fair Price

on Jul 9, 2003 - I've seen quite some tools like this. Some need to switch off/on the device if you want to have the screen back, which is very bad, especially if you have connected it to your PC and just wanna take it off and use it right away. This one is different, you can assign a hardware button to switch off/on and so you don't need to turn off/on the device. A nice feature would be a timer that switches off the screen after a set time. Another programm is doing this, but that costs 10 $, which is too much. So, this tool is great and fair on the pricing, which make it go five stars.
