PocketGrandmaster boasts a fully configurable chess board; simple yet far-reaching functions to work with game databases (.pgn) and to enable the replay of games; a chessclock; analysis mode for tutoring and problem solving; and even hints to help improve your gameplay!
PocketGrandmaster allows to play real people over the internet on the two popular chess servers ICS and FICS and lets you select between a variety of preconfigured levels for both tournament and blitz games.
PocketGrandmaster features three extremely strong chess engines with an openingbook of 200,000 moves, and plays interesting and often aggressive chess. The engine is a successor to the program finishing 4th in the World Microcomputer Chess Championships 2001, winning the title of the 18th World Microcomputer Amateur Chess Champion.

on Feb 20, 2007 - Being a decent club player now for 20 years - highest ELO achieved 2087 - PocketGrandmaster v3.1 (with the Fruit 2.1 chess engine) is one of the strongest PPC chess programs that I've come across. Excellent board graphics as well as responsive support (via email) from Kai & Frank, the creators, coupled with a small foot print on my HTC TyTN makes this a must have for chess enthusiast. My only wish, and a killer feature still to be implemented: Online WLAN play via either the free internet chess server (FICS) as first choice or the internet chess club (ICC subscription). I've emailed the creators of PocketGrandmaster in this regard, and they indicated WLAN play is on the cards, but due to current time/work constraints, not sure when it will be implemented. I sincerely hope they do find the time in the near future.

on Jun 7, 2006 - Don't be fooled by other programs claiming to be the strongest at playing chess.This latest version of PocketGranmaster 3.0 is very strong when using the Fruit 2.1 engine.I have tested it with various test positions and it comes up with the solutions in very quick time. Also the user interface is very easy to navigate and loading games from any pgn database is very easy.I have chess combinations and sacrifices loaded in my PPC and many other pgn files also loaded. So in summary if you are serious about chess get this program.
