Slow to communicate (download) slides to Pocket-PC. Only works with serial com port, not USB.

I am a little disappointed that "SlideShow Commander (TM)" only appears to work with serial com ports, at least that is all I have been able to use. I have sent several e-mails to the maker, "Synergy Solutions, Inc.", but have had no response. This led me to try telephoning the company... they have a very pleasant voice on their answering machine to take your message, but to date no reply. I question there customer centered support. As for the product, the connection between computer and Pocket PC is only by serial com port and cable. Not throuth ActiveSync, in fact you must disable ActiveSync. This has positive aspects and negative. On the plus side, you can run "SlideShow Commander (TM)" on a machine that you have not loaded any ActiveSync. On the down side you can only use the serial com port, so if you have a nifty super slim laptop that only has USB ports, you're out of luck. Another "problem" that I have had has been an error message appearing on the "SlideShow Commander (TM)" screen of the Pocket PC that states "SlideShowControll.dll was not found on the host computer. Please place this file in the PebblesPC directory." Unfortunately there is no "PebblesPC directory", I think this is something left over from an earlier product, the "Pebbles Project", that should have been rooted out during beta-testing. To solve this problem I have always selected "ok" and gone on with my presentation with seemingly no ill effects. Aside from no USB support, and questionable customer support, "SlideShow Commander (TM)" has one very large saving utility. The ability to "scribble" or write notes on PowerPoint slides. This is great to highlight points on a slide or call attention to something in a photo on a PowerPoint slide. You even have the ability to project a blank PowerPoint slide and scribble on that - like having an overhead projector. For me this makes the program semi-tolerable. I hope future editions address the communication speed and the lack of USB support. Overall I would rate this program as having some merit. Try the demo, and if your needs are met then it is a good product for you.
