Something is amiss on the continent of Faydwer. Whispers of war have spread like wild fire among the Dwarves, Elves and Gnomes. What could be driving these peaceful races to the brink of destruction? Will hundreds of years of harmony and peace be crushed forever?

In the third chapter of EverQuest for the Pocket PC, War on Faydar, you must answer these questions and more. Visit Kaladim, the mine city of Dwarves; Kelethin, the city in the trees; Ak'Anon, the city of Gnomes, and Felwithe, the city of High Elves. Battle monsters in Butcherblock Mountains, Steamfont Mountains, the Faydark Forests, and Dagnor's Cauldron. The fate of Faydwer rests in your hands. Are you up to the challenge?

Gets boring... Rated 3 out of 5 stars

The largest online RPG's brought to the handheld platform. Although I never had time to waste with the original I always find myself going back to this one. Its Diablo-esque hack and slash gameplay reminded me how great the genre was. Here are some details about it. The graphics are probably the only great thing about the game. Although 3D environments (like in the original) would be a bit much to ask for on the limited capabilities of the handhelds, the 2D isometric atmosphere is perfect. The characters are so colourful and some of the spells cast from them made me take a second look at them (Freeze, for one, is a pretty spectacle). The only downfall, graphics-wise, were some of the blocky monsters and obvious tile landscapes. I thought every game designer knew that putting a water tile right beside a land tile just doesn't work. You need a boundry tile to show a shoreline or something like that to give the illusion that the are connected and you aren't walking on a floating platform. EQ War on Faydwer has taken the hack and slash genre to a new, boring, level. I thought as you proceed through the game it was suppose to become harder. The only hard thing I found about it was trying to find out where I am suppose to go to continue the completely linear, and rather pointless, storyline. You control your character completely with the stylus, attacking countless, neverending, boring enemies, casting spells and getting information from NPCs. There is a lot of walking involved so I hope you brought your walking stick. The level system is a bit strange. The only thing you have control over with your character's development is the spell level displacement. Everything else comes down to what you hold in your inventory. The clangs and slashes coming through my Pocket PC speaker got pretty annoying after a while as they were the same sounds over and over again (even when fighting different monsters). You do, however, have the option to turn the sounds off. In total, EverQuest War on Faydwer is a game you'd play when there is nothing else you could do at the time. Although the graphics are pretty neat, the gameplay makes the game boring and repeatative. I would recommend this game to anyone who finds walking and doing the same thing over and over fun.

Similar to the other chapters, here you're exploring who is behind an impending War. Several side quests are in the middle of the adventure contributing to the variety and depth of the story. My only complaint is that there is no Chapter 4 to look forward to once I am done with this one!
