The Philips Camcoder is a high quality audio video encoder and player for the SonyEricsson P800 mobile handset. It provides real-time audio video grabbing and encoding in the MPEG-4/H263 video format as specified by the 3GPP standard. It is fully integrated into phone application environments such as MMS, BT, IR and e-mail. Recorded videos can be played back on all 3GPP compliant players such as but not limited to Philips Platform4 PC Player and Apple Quicktime 6.5.

Requirements

 The 3GPP Philips Camcoder for SonyEricsson P800 software requires the Organiser CXC162001 R2A14 firmware (or later). This firmware is mandatory to reliably record audio video clips as stated in our product description on Handango.

In order for you to check which firmware revision is installed in your P800, please follow these steps:

• Open the Application Manager and tap [View] in the menu bar.
• Select [System Information]
• Use the arrows in the bottom of the screen to scroll the list.

If your phone does not match this requirement, the Camcoder will return an error message informing users on the non compatibility of the ECamCompatibility module with the Camcoder. In this case, you need to contact a service point / technical center of SonyEricsson to upgrade the firmware of your phone.

Yes, BUT!

I was thrilled by the idea that I didn't have to go through the process of changing from my P800 to a P900 (leave aside the cost), as the video part is one of the main initiatives for switching. Bought this very handy, easy to use, software, BUT was VERY disappointed to find out that it is a limited edition program! A Pro version promises the rest, but is not available! Is it worth it just to say that you do have a video capturing possibility, BUT keep a secret that you cannot go over 16 seconds in length (or 150K in size)??

Great application with annoying non-PRO limits...

I just bought my P800 used and was really pleased when I found there had just been a video camera program released. When I saw the non-PRO limitations I started to search for the PRO version, only to discover that the only version available for SE P800 was the 'non-PRO', whilst the only version for Nokia phones was the PRO version!! This annoys the hell out of me, since the PRO version has unlimited capacity where the P800 only has 150k, 15 fps where the P800 only has 10, 'Pro' quality where the P800 only has 'high' and, although I'm not sure, my guess is the PRO gives the choice of 160x120 that the P800 offers... Hopefully you can combine 640x480, Pro quality and 15 ips for videos good enough for PC... Give the SE people PRO now!

When is the PRO version coming - Nokias have it! 150k maximum clip size on the non-PRO makes this useless - as does its failure to support any decent sound codec. Pictures good tho!
